Casa De Rancho

I have been neglecting posting lately, mainly because my new house has been dying for a face lift. Last week I came home to find my newly joined living room/kitchen/dining room flooded... Here are some photos of the very humble "Casa de Rancho"...

Happy New Year!

I never usually pick a "resolution" to hold myself to in the new year. I like not being held accountable for something I don't plan to do past mid January anyway. This year however, I decided to try something different and set one goal. This last year was filled with so many crazy changes in my life (moves, relationships ending, buying my first house, etc.) that I figured I should start to try to organize my life better. Since organization is such a broad category, I decided I should pick one area of my life to organize, and what better area than the home? So my official 2008 resolution:

Modernize and Organize!

So here's a few things I wanted to share with you that will aid in your own Modernization/Organization if you happen to share my goals for 2008!

Trash Cans
In the last 5 years, trash cans have managed to evolve from eye sores to eye catchers. They are now manufactured to match almost any style/taste. One of the coolest companies to appear lately is simplehuman. They now offer a full line of trash receptacles, recycling cans, not to mention cool coffee systems. Perhaps the most noteworthy is their rectangular sensor can, which takes advantage of infrared technology to achieve a completely "hands off" process.

Accessories

Possibly one of the coolest companies to hit the kitchen, OXO, offers a full line of modernized kitchen accessories. I got these awesome measuring cups for Christmas. Check out OXO.com for more great products.

Must Have Mags

What better way to start the new year than with some new subscriptions. Here are some essential reads that belong on your coffee table:

Dwell - A must have. Period.

Architectural Digest - Nice, large magazine filled with great residential and commercial content.

Architectural Record - In depth content on residential and commercial architecture. One of my faves, but not exactly for someone who is not interested in architecture as a whole.

Interior Design - Published by the same house as Architectural Digest. Again, a very large magazine, filled with great ideas, as well as great business information for the career interior designer.

Metropolitan Home - Great magazine with a very urban modern feel.

Atomic Ranch - As a fan of Mid Century Modern architecture, I love this mag. It is only published once a quarter, but it is full of great in depth info on MCM architecture, furniture, and decorating.
